A beautiful hand-turned lidded soup or baked bean bowl. The design is influenced by the traditional style of lidded bean pots that Ben III's grandfather, Ben Owen Sr., used to make.
Dishwasher-, microwave- and oven-safe. For oven use to bake pinto beans or BBQ baked beans, etc., do not pre-heat oven. Place lidded tureen with food into cold oven. Then, turn on oven so the tureen heats pre-heats as normal when baking. Heat shock occurs when placing directly into/onto a high-heat sources.
The Nebular Purple resulted from experimenting with cobalt glazes fired inside the wood kiln atmosphere. The slow cooling of the kiln creates light purple micro-crystals along the surface. A unique find that was a pleasant surprise! Measuring 6”dia (6.5"dia. w handles) x 4.25”h.
Please Note: What appear to be white spots on the surface are reflections from photo lighting.
Nebular Purple Glaze
Ben Owen III developed the Nebular Purple wood-fired microcrystalline series over several years. The outcome is the artistic rendition of a majestic nebula formation that telescopic space images portray.
To achieve this rare find, the wood kiln temperature is meticulously controlled as it rises AND as it falls, to encourage micro-crystal growth at specific temperatures and render this stunning final product. A small amount of the pigment magnesium tints the crystals light purple while a high concentration of the pigment cobalt tints the background a deep, rich blue. We hope you enjoy this one-of-a-kind glaze!
