An example of design influence from Ben III’s time in Japan.  Serving bowls have been a part of the home setting for thousands of years.  Offering guests, family, or friends a treat or special food dish has been a long-standing tradition across many cultures that continues today.  An arrangement of fresh flowers inside this bowl also provides a welcomed visual offering to visitors to your home or office.
This bowl form works well for the diagonal carved lines accented with the lavender micro-crystals.  The Nebular Purple glaze is a creation from experimenting with cobalt glazes in the wood kiln.  The slow cooling of the kiln creates micro-crystals on the surface.  Measuring 6.5” opening diameter x 8.25” outside diameter x 3"h.
Please Note: What appear to be white spots on the surface are reflections from photo lighting.

Ben Owen III developed the Nebular Purple wood-fired microcrystalline series over several years.  The Nebular Purple glaze is a recent creation from experimenting with cobalt glazes in the wood kiln.  The slow cooling of the kiln creates micro-crystals on the surface.  The outcomes resemble majestic nebular formations telescopic images portray.
To achieve this rare find, the wood kiln temperature is meticulously controlled as it rises AND as it falls, to encourage micro-crystal growth at specific temperatures and render this stunning final product.  We hope you enjoy this one-of-a-kind glaze!
