This classic egg-shaped vase has been made for three generations of Ben’s family.  With an elegant understatement, the Egg Vase is one of the most popular forms that Ben Owen III enjoys creating. This elegantly understated form works well for the blue-purple finish.
The Nebular Purple resulted from experimenting with cobalt glazes fired inside the wood kiln atmosphere.  The slow cooling of the kiln creates light purple micro-crystals along the surface.  A unique find that was a pleasant surprise!  Measuring  6.5”w x 11.5"h..
Please Note: What appear to be white spots on the surface are reflections from photo lighting.

Ben Owen III developed the Nebular Purple wood-fired microcrystalline series over several years.  The outcome is the artistic rendition of a majestic nebula formation that telescopic space images portray.
To achieve this rare find, the wood kiln temperature is meticulously controlled as it rises AND as it falls, to encourage micro-crystal growth at specific temperatures and render this stunning final product.  A small amount of the pigment magnesium tints the crystals light purple while a high concentration of the pigment cobalt tints the background a deep, rich blue.  We hope you enjoy this one-of-a-kind glaze!

This piece is hand-signed by Ben Owen III with the year made (2024).
