A classic form by Ben Owen III, this Egg Vase in Lily Pad Green Crystalline is sure to become a treasured addition to any collection or display.
Ben III often looks to shapes and forms in nature for artistic inspiration.  This Egg Vase is an example, and, is also a traditional form favored by Ben’s grandfather, Ben Owen Sr.  This vase design is heavily influenced by the Mei Peng style vases made early in Chinese clay culture.  With a modest approach to form that allows the glaze surface to receive the focus of attention, the Egg Vase is one of the most popular forms that Ben III enjoys creating.  Measuring 6.75”w x 10.5"h.
Please Note: What appear to be white spots on the surface are reflections from photo lighting.

The Lily Pad Green Crystalline Glaze series was carefully developed over several years.  Ben Owen III methodically manipulated various glaze materials with the potential to create unique surfaces and patterns that are reflective of natural scenery in our world's environment.  Some outcomes resemble lichen on stone, lily pads peeking along a pond surface, or even blue moon jellies floating in deep ocean waters.
To achieve this rare find, the kiln temperature is meticulously controlled as it rises AND as it falls, to encourage crystalline growth at specific temperatures.  The glaze is applied by carefully airbrushing multiple layers of complementary glazes.  The presence of titanium- and zinc-rich ingredients promote crystal development, while the pigment copper tints the crystals and background green.  We hope you enjoy this one-of-a-kind glaze!
