Covered in a new combination of Ben III's Nebular Purple wood-fired microcrystalline glaze inside and his latest rutile glaze outside. The slow cooling of the kiln creates dark beige micro-crystals along the surface. A unique find that was a pleasant surprise! Measuring 3.75"w x 4”h.
Please Note: What appear to be white spots on the surface are reflections from photo lighting.
Nebular Purple
Ben Owen III developed the Nebular Purple wood-fired microcrystalline series over several years. The outcome is the artistic rendition of a majestic nebula formation that telescopic space images portray.
To achieve this rare find, the wood kiln temperature is meticulously controlled as it rises AND as it falls, to encourage micro-crystal growth at specific temperatures and render this stunning final product. A small amount of the pigment magnesium tints the crystals light purple while a high concentration of the pigment cobalt tints the background a deep, rich blue. We hope you enjoy this one-of-a-kind glaze!
This piece is hand-signed by Ben Owen III with the year made (2026).
