The Nebular Purple glaze is a newer micro-crystal glaze development from Ben Owen III. The small purple crystals are formed along the surface of the clay, within the glaze, during the cooling process of the wood kiln firing. An amazing feat of glaze chemistry! Using Ben’s cobalt glaze in the wood kiln creates an array of blue tones in the background glaze to contrast the lavender/light purple micro-crystals.
Ben Owen III developed the Nebular Purple wood-fired microcrystalline series over several years. The outcomes resemble majestic nebular formations telescopic images portray.
To achieve this rare find, the wood kiln temperature is meticulously controlled as it rises AND as it falls, to encourage micro-crystal growth at specific temperatures and render this stunning final product. We hope you enjoy this one-of-a-kind glaze!
