A classic and popular shape from Ben Owen III and his family, this Egg Vase creates an elegant understatement. Ben III's studies of the Mei Peng style of vases made early in Chinese clay culture heavily influenced this form. The melon lines along the surface of the vase are influenced by nature, as Ben often gathers inspiration from the world around him. This Melon Egg Vase reflects that organic influence. The vase is thrown on the potter's wheel and then altered into a melon-like shape to create a unique design.
The simplistic yet definitive carved sunburst design on the top of the vase was hand-carved by Ben Owen III during his experimental phase of clay design in the early 1990s. A beautiful, unique historical treasure to join your current collection. Measuring 5.5”w x 8.25”h.

Amber Celadon
The Amber Celadon Glaze features a transparent finish that has been based on the blue and green celadons of Asia. It is made from a mixture of feldspathic rock, clay, and, flint rock with the addition of small amounts of Yellow Ochre as a pigment. Ben III's experimentation with celadons began with research in college and further study in China and Japan.
This finish is excellent for revealing carved designs on the surface while showing the underlying clay. The Celadon Amber Glaze relates to the color of honey and the range of tones is reliant on the type of clay, the amount of yellow ochre which has the presence of iron oxide, and, the atmosphere in the kiln to create the exact environment for the color to develop.
