The Nebular Purple glaze is a recent creation from experimenting with cobalt glazes in the wood kiln.  The slow-cooling of the kiln creates the light purple micro-crystals along the surface.  The melon lines reflect the influence that nature has on Ben III's designs.  After turning the vase, the piece is left to dry to a semi-set stage.  Then, a tool is used to make the lines into the clay.  A beautiful accent to a special handmade vase.  Measuring 6"w x 12.25”h.
Please Note: What appear to be white spots on the surface are reflections from photo lighting.

Ben Owen III developed the Nebular Purple wood-fired microcrystalline series over several years.  The Nebular Purple glaze is a recent creation from experimenting with cobalt glazes in the wood kiln.  The slow cooling of the kiln creates micro-crystals on the surface.  The outcomes resemble majestic nebular formations telescopic images portray.
To achieve this rare find, the wood kiln temperature is meticulously controlled as it rises AND as it falls, to encourage micro-crystal growth at specific temperatures and render this stunning final product.  We hope you enjoy this one-of-a-kind glaze!

This piece is hand-signed by Ben Owen III with the year made (2023).
