Inspired by Ben Owen III's transformative time in Japan, this Ming Bowl marries centuries of ceramic tradition with contemporary artistry.  The vessel showcases manganese pink micro-crystals that dance across its surface, beautifully complemented by the cobalt background glaze—a unique crystalline creation born from wood kiln experimentation. The slow cooling process births the delicate micro-crystals that illuminate the surface, creating an ever-intriguing visual experience.
Drawing from six generations of family craftsmanship, the last three of which focused on Asian art forms, the bowl flange exhibits triangular cut-outs that reflect the elegance of Ming Dynasty ceramic art and early Japanese pottery techniques.  Whether cradling fresh fruit, floating flowers, or serving as a sculptural centerpiece, this Ming Bowl transforms any table into a graceful, museum-worthy display.  A timeless investment in handcrafted beauty, this functional work of art honors ancient traditions while celebrating modern creativity.  Dishwasher- and microwave-safe.  Measuring 10” opening diameter x 11.5” outer flange diameter x 4.25"h.
Please Note: What appear to be white spots on the surface are reflections from photo lighting.

Nebular Purple
Ben Owen III developed the Nebular Purple wood-fired microcrystalline series over several years.  The Nebular Purple glaze is a recent creation from experimenting with cobalt glazes in the wood kiln.  The slow cooling of the kiln creates micro-crystals on the surface.  The outcomes resemble majestic nebular formations telescopic images portray.
To achieve this rare find, the wood kiln temperature is meticulously controlled as it rises AND as it falls, to encourage micro-crystal growth at specific temperatures and render this stunning final product.  We hope you enjoy this one-of-a-kind glaze!
