This form is heavily influenced by the Mei Peng style vases made early in Chinese clay culture and has been made for three generations of Ben’s family.  With a modest approach to form that allows the glaze surface to receive the focus of attention, the Egg Vase is one of the most popular forms that Ben enjoys creating.
A beautiful accent to any home or office, this Egg Vase is functional for fresh or dried floral arrangements.  Measuring 4.5”w x 8.25”h.
Please Note: What appear to be white spots on the surface are reflections from photo lighting.

The Cabernet Glaze is a variation of the Chinese Blue Glaze but made with only one type of copper to achieve the pigment.  The influences from making the Cabernet, or Copper Red, glazes originated from the Ming Dynasty type of pottery in China, in the 12th century, A.D.  The red color is created by introducing carbon or depriving the atmosphere of oxygen early in the firing process.  Exposure to the smoky atmosphere converts the copper glaze from what would be a typical green glaze, to a wine-red color.

This piece is hand-signed by Ben Owen III with the year made (2024).
