This handmade Covered Jar in Nebular Purple represents the pinnacle of functional artistry.  Seamlessly bridging the gap between practical storage and gallery-worthy display, this Covered Jar is an exceptional choice for those who appreciate authentic, one-of-a-kind ceramics.
The enchanting glaze emerged through bold experimentation with cobalt in a wood-fired kiln, where the gradual cooling process creates luminous light lavender micro-crystals across the surface—a technique that ensures no two pieces are identical.
The precisely fitted lid closes with satisfying precision, while the vessel's elegant proportions make it equally at home on a kitchen shelf or living room table.  This is more than a container; it's a testament to the potter's craft and a stunning focal point that invites admiration and conversation.  Dishwasher-safe.  Hand-turned by our studio assistant, Silas Bradley, as part of the Ben Owen Pottery Tableware Collection.  Measuring 7.25"w x 8.75"h.
Please Note: What appear to be white spots on the surface are reflections from photo lighting.

Nebular Purple
Ben Owen III developed the Nebular Purple wood-fired microcrystalline series over several years.  The outcome is the artistic rendition of a majestic nebula formation that telescopic space images portray.
To achieve this rare find, the wood kiln temperature is meticulously controlled as it rises AND as it falls, to encourage micro-crystal growth at specific temperatures and render this stunning final product.  A small amount of the pigment magnesium tints the crystals light purple while a high concentration of the pigment cobalt tints the background a deep, rich blue.  We hope you enjoy this one-of-a-kind glaze!

The Tableware Collection
You can find the traditional forms and shapes of Ben Owen Sr. pottery wares in The Tableware Collection at Ben Owen lll Pottery.  This line highlights shapes and forms made in a traditional Owen style of the early 1900’s folk pottery of North Carolina as well as influences from Asia.
This traditional collection has been continued by several potters who have worked at Ben Owen Pottery since the 1960’s.  The previous line was made by potter Elizabeth McAdams, who worked as a studio assistant and retail manager for Ben Owen Pottery from 2022-2025.  The current line is made by potter Silas Bradley, who began work as a studio assistant in August 2025.

This piece is stamped "Ben Owen Pottery" with initials hand-signed "SB".
