{"product_id":"vase-in-dogwood-white-5h-benjamin-owen-iv","title":"Vase in Dogwood White, 5\"h (Benjamin Owen IV)","description":"\u003cp\u003e   This Dogwood White Vase carries on a generational tradition dating back to Benjamin IV’s great-grandfather, Ben Owen Sr.  \u003cbr\u003e   This glaze works well for wedding gifts and a display of colorful flowers.  The scalloped design on the base is influenced by early Chinese glazed pottery techniques during the Song and Tang Dynasties and early Japanese techniques.  The rich color of the red clay enhances the white glaze coating.  Measuring 4.25\"w x 5\"h.\u003cbr\u003ePlease Note: What appear to be white spots on the surface are reflections from photo lighting.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cbr\u003eDogwood White\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e   During the 1920s, Benjamin IV's great-grandfather, Ben Owen Sr., was a potter at Jugtown Pottery.  While there, Jacque Busbee did extensive research to create many of the colors for the pottery.  Chinese and Japanese white finishes inspired the Dogwood White glaze for pottery with a thick coating that resembles icing on a cake.  In 1928, the Busbees of Jugtown entered a vase, made by Ben Owen, in the Dogwood festival with this white glaze.  The vase was awarded best in the show and from that time forward, the vase was called the Dogwood Vase, and the glaze was named Dogwood White.  This glaze works well for weddings and flower displays.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; color: black;\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eBenjamin Wade Owen IV\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003e   Benjamin Wade Owen IV (b. 2005), the youngest child of sixth-generation potter Ben Owen III.  Creating with clay is a way for Ben IV to carry on his family's legacy and connect with his roots.  Ben IV's work has been featured in galleries such as the Mint Museum in Charlotte, N.C. as well as the Golf Shop of the renowned Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.\u003cbr\u003e   Ben IV is currently studying law at Liberty University and will continue to make pots for Ben Owen Pottery.  When home, Ben IV enjoys spending his spare moments turning clay in his family's studio in Seagrove, N.C.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis piece is hand-signed by Benjamin Owen IV with the year made (2024).\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Ben Owen Pottery","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":41096114929719,"sku":"Benjamin Owen IV","price":68.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0263\/8692\/3575\/files\/IMG_0114_jpg.jpg?v=1719345090","url":"https:\/\/store.benowenpottery.com\/products\/vase-in-dogwood-white-5h-benjamin-owen-iv","provider":"Ben Owen Pottery","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
