A miniature version of Ben III's classic pear vase.  This Pear Vase has an organic approach to form and offers elegant simplicity.  Ben III often discovers inspiration for his pieces from nature while reflecting on his grandfather’s advice of, “Keep it simple”.  With an understated elegance, this Pear Vase provides a gentle framework for displaying the serendipitous Midnight Blue Crystalline glaze.  The perfect size for a few stems of fresh or dried flowers.   A perfect token gift, hostess gift, or, present for that little one in the family with a passion for pottery.  Measuring 2.75”w x 3.75”h.
Please Note: What appear to be white spots on the surface are reflections from photo lighting.

The Midnight Blue Crystalline Glaze series was carefully developed over several years. Ben Owen III methodically manipulated various glaze materials for the potential to create unique surfaces and patterns that are reflective of natural scenery in our world's environment.  Some outcomes resemble lichen on stone, lily pads floating along a lake or pond, and even blue jellyfish floating in deep ocean waters.
To achieve this rare find, the kiln temperature is meticulously controlled as it rises AND as it falls, to encourage crystalline growth at specific temperatures. The glaze is applied by carefully airbrushing multiple layers of complementary glazes.  The presence of titanium- and zinc-rich ingredients promote crystal development, while the pigment cobalt tints the crystals and background blue.  We hope you enjoy this one-of-a-kind glaze!

This piece is hand-signed by Ben Owen III with the year made (2023).
