Serving bowls have been a part of the home setting for thousands of years. Offering guests, family, or friends a treat or special food dish has been a long-standing tradition across many cultures that continues today. This Ming Bowl is a unique style with a wide rim that is influenced by clay forms created during the Ming Dynasty in Chinese culture. The Ming Bowl form has been made for three generations in Ben III’s family. A great serving bowl for food, and, a perfect display for floating flowers on a table. A perfect gift for that hard-to-shop-for friend or family member.

The Midnight Blue Crystalline Glaze series was carefully developed over several years. Ben Owen III methodically manipulated various glaze materials for the potential to create unique surfaces and patterns that are reflective of natural scenery in our world's environment. Some outcomes resemble lichen on stone, lily pads floating along a lake or pond, and even blue jellyfish floating in deep ocean waters.
To achieve this rare find, the kiln temperature is meticulously controlled as it rises AND as it falls, to encourage crystalline growth at specific temperatures. The glaze is applied by carefully airbrushing multiple layers of complementary glazes. The presence of titanium- and zinc-rich ingredients promote crystal development, while the pigment cobalt tints the crystals and background blue. We hope you enjoy this one-of-a-kind glaze!
