The Blue Crystalline glaze is one of Ben’s newest developments. Due to the unique chemical properties during crystal formation, no two crystals are alike. This glaze lends itself to creating completely individualized pieces. The Han Vase form is the result of influences Ben III received while studying pottery made during the Chinese Han dynasty.
Fully functional as well as decorative, this piece will be appreciated by its recipient and will make a great conversation piece at the table. Measuring 4.25”w x 6.25"h.

The Crystalline Glaze series was carefully developed over several years. Ben Owen III methodically manipulated various glaze materials for the potential to create unique surfaces and patterns that are reflective of natural scenery in our world's environment. Some outcomes resemble lichen on stone, lily pads floating along a lake or pond, and even blue jellyfish floating in deep ocean waters.
To achieve this rare find, the kiln temperature is meticulously controlled as it rises AND as it falls, to encourage crystalline growth at specific temperatures. The glaze is applied by carefully airbrushing multiple layers of complementary glazes. The presence of titanium- and zinc-rich ingredients promotes crystal development, while various pigments tint the crystals. We hope you enjoy this one-of-a-kind glaze!
