Serving bowls have been a part of the home setting for thousands of years.  Offering guests, family, or friends a treat or special food dish has been a long-standing tradition across many cultures that continues today.  An arrangement of fresh flowers inside this bowl also provides a welcomed visual offering to visitors to your home or office.  This contoured bowl reveals many of the great qualities of the glaze surface and will become a cherished conversation piece.  Dishwasher- and microwave-safe.  Measuring 9”dia. x 3”h.
Please Note: What appear to be white spots on the surface are reflections from photo lighting.

The Mulberry Glaze is made with a blend of copper pigments.  In a clean-burning atmosphere, a copper glaze will finish light to dark green depending on the amount of copper.  When the kiln is adjusted to burn with more fuel than oxygen, carbon will build up in the kiln chamber and will be absorbed into the clay and glaze.  At a temperature of 1600°F and higher, the carbon will begin to affect the copper in the glaze and produce a red finish.  This glaze matures at 2250°F.  The timing and duration of the firing are critical in achieving a burgundy to wine-red finish.  If there is not enough carbon present, a light green to white finish will result.

This piece is hand-signed by Ben Owen III with year made (1992), and, is part of our "Pots From the Past" release.  A beautiful, unique addition to any collection.
