The Egg Vase is a classic and popular shape from Ben Owen III and his family. This form is heavily influenced by the Mei Peng style vases made early in Chinese clay culture. The shape creates an elegant understatement for allowing the special effects microcrystalline glaze to be of focus.
Considered an “artistic glaze”, Blue-Green Frost Microcrystalline glaze provides just the right chemical combination to promote the formation of micro-crystals along the clay surface. This Blue-Green Frost glaze is a variation of Ben III’s Blue Frost Microcrystalline glaze and is fired in an electric kiln with a meticulous cooling schedule to create an environment conducive to micro-crystal formation. Measuring 4”w x 6"h.

Ben Owen III developed the Blue-Green Frost Microcrystalline glaze in 2022 as a variation of his popular Blue Frost Microcrystalline glaze. The kiln is fired to over 2,300 degrees Fahrenheit and is meticulously controlled during the firing to accommodate the development of this unique finish. The stunning result is a growth of tiny, frosty-gray matte crystals over a field of cool blue-green. Key elements present in the glaze include copper, to produce the green hue; and magnesium, to promote the textural quality.
